Studying ballet as a therapy for asthma instilled in Aviva compassion and empathy. She was one of the first dance therapists in Australia. As a student teacher in 1966, her first ballet student was a young girl with a disability. From the early seventies, Aviva taught at schools in Melbourne for children with hearing- and vision-impairment, children and adults with asthma, autism, speech impediments, trauma.
Her dance and voice work for people with disabilities was well-received in Holland, Germany and in particular, in Israel.
Aviva was on the inaugural board of the Dance Therapy Association of Australia, 1994-95. Since then, she has taught workshops and seminars for practitioners and individuals who have a disability, or who work with people with disability, in South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania and New South Wales, as well as in America. Aviva is committed to continue this work life-long.
